Gratituesday...and unexpected blessing

On Saturday, I opened the mailbox to find the usual...bills, free samples, junk mail, and an envelope mailed to my husband and I with no return address.

Opening it, we found the above. A note saying "May the Lord bless you and keep you" and a $50 giftcard for Giant Eagle.

Talk about a blessing and utter surprise! We have totally given up on trying to think of who could have possibly sent it. Whoever it was didn't want us to know. That's the way it should be in the Body of Christ.
Matthew 6:3
"But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing..."

But we know it was one of our brothers or sisters in Christ. God always works through them. And this came at a wonderfully needed time. God's timing is always perfect.

Whoever sent us this, thank you. From the deepest part of our hearts. May God continue to bless you for blessing others.

I am thankful for God's family...our family.

What are you thankful for today?

(Oh, and I am also thankful for being done with painting the two rooms!)

Dragons!

As you can see, no weekly menu plan today. Why? Because frankly, this week is going to be so busy, and I plan on feeding us lots of leftovers, cereal, scrambled eggs, and easy peasy meals. Except for Thanksgiving...I will post the menu plan for that on Wednesday.

I spent today, and plan to finish up tommorrow, painting the nursery and upstairs bathrooms, ceiling and all. I am sitting here with speckled hair, hands, and arms, and my feet are killing me. But I got the ceilings done, the windows edged, and most of the trim in both rooms done. Hopefully, in between the business of appointments and daily chores, I will have the walls rolled and the rest of the trim completed by tommorrow night.

Despite my crazy day, I had to share with you the dinosaur/dragon cake I made for Jonas' 3rd birthday this past Saturday. I think it is one of my favorite cakes so far!

Pregnancy update...and a happy birthday to Jonas!

Andddd......
Hello 3rd trimester!

I cannot believe how quickly this pregnancy is flying by. Maybe it's because I never get to sit down? Well, except to blog of course. But the days are whizzing by, and before you know it, wham! New baby boy will be joining our family!

I had my midwife appointment yesterday. By the way, have I told you how much I love my midwife? She is the one who delivered my other babies at home, and after all the drama of a few c-sections since then, I am thrilled to have her attend this birth and to be having this baby at home again! She is an absolute God-send and I couldn't imagine giving birth to another baby without her. I missed her so much!

I am right around 27 weeks, and measuring on track. My tummy is always all baby.
We could feel each body part distinctly and although he kept wiggling away, we were able to figure out his postition. He appears head down, but he seems to have his feet down by his head, because all the hiccups and all the kicks are down low.

I hope he isn't an acrobat in labor like Jonas was.

So, all looks good! I am chugging down my red raspberry leaf tea, listening to my hypnobabies, trying to convince Matt to agree to the name Titus (you can all email him and tell him how much you love that name!), and nesting like crazy.

Unfortunately I always nest starting at 5 months and it's terrible because I want everything done right away. Then of course it all needs redone by the time the baby is due which makes me have to do it all double.

*sigh* Hormones.

Speaking of hormones...I am all weapy today as my little Jonas is 3 years old!

Happy birthday big boy!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a busy day to contend to. Laundry, diapers, floors to scrub, pepperoni baking in the oven, a dinosaur cake to make for Jonas' birthday celebration tommorrow, a double day of school since we didn't do it yesterday, and of course all the normal mommy things like dishes and cooking. All before Matt gets home.

Then I hope to go thrift storing with a great friend.

And then out for coffee.

Because it wouldn't be a complete girls night out without a pumpkin latte from Starbucks.

The miracle of garlic...and a trick to taking it

Garlic.

With winter around the corner, it it a lifesaver during cold and flu season.
Did you know garlic is a natural antibiotic? In fact, you can heal just about anything with garlic. Not only is it antiboitic, it is antibacterial, and antifungal.

Garlic is extremely useful. It can help lower cholesterol and regulate cardiovascular function, treat infection, and bring up phlegm in the case of a chest cold. If a cold moves into the chest, garlic can help to fight it if combined with other natural remedies, such a vapor or steam, tea, and compresses. It is an expectorant when eaten raw.

The chances of bacteria developing immunity to this natural antibiotic are low because garlic’s antibiotic properties are natural and non-manufactured. Some have suggested it also has antioxident properties, making garlic treatment an effective tool in fighting free radicals. All in all, garlic helps boost the immune system and fight away infections before they can take root.

Hands down, Garlic is one of the best natural antibiotics.

But it can be a bit hard to choke down. At least when eaten raw.
I know.
We each eat a clove a day during sick season in our family, including the children (only they get half a clove.)
And when we already are sick? We eat a clove at every meal.

There can be a trick to eating it. If you find the taste of this spicy little bite a bit too much to chew, try this....

Crush the clove and place it on a spoonful of honey. Then swallow it all together as a mouthful. The honey totally cuts it making it palatable even for the littlest toddler!

But what do you do if you have an infant who can't even eat food yet?

Many a times we have had newborns come down with a bad chest cold. It can be a scary thing, and unfortunately, you are very limited to what you can do for them herbally.

A potent antibiotic to help them heal superfast would be garlic...but how?

Make a garlic poultice!
Take a clove of garlic and crush it onto a double layered paper towel. Fold the paper towel into a little packet. Heat some water to just below boiling. Soak the packet in the water for about 30 seconds. Very gently squeeze out the excess water. Place the warm pouch on the chest for 1 minute, the back for 1 minute, and the soles of the feet each for minute. The skin will absorb the garlic into the bloodstream, giving the antibiotic properties to the baby. You can use it on a bigger child who refuses to eat the stuff too!

For earaches, you can make a warm oil to help soothe and heal.
Take a tablespoon or two of olive oil and heat it up until warm. Crush a clove of garlic into the oil and stir. Let it sit for a few moments. Scoop out the pieces of garlic so just the oil is left. (You may need to heat the oil again slightly before using the drops.) Place a few drops in each ear, working it all around so it goes all the way down. Stuff ear with cotton and that's it! Just like antibiotic ear drops, only natural, safe, and much faster working. I can tell you I have had children wake up during the night terribly sick and crying because there ears hurt. I put a few drops of the garlic oil in each ear, and within a few hours the ear ache is non-existent and they feel 100 times better.

There are so many other uses for garlic and it's healing purposes. Do some research and find out how you can stay healthy the natural way this winter!

Garlic really really works for me!
